What we collect

When you make an account and use the app, we collect:

Email address. Used to sign you in and to reach you about your account.
Display name and handle. Shown to other players on games, courts, and chat threads.
Avatar image, if you add one. Optional. There is no requirement to upload a photo of yourself.
Court photos, if you add them. Optional. Shown to everyone on that court's page.
Approximate location. Used to find courts near you. See the location section below.
Push notification token. An anonymous device identifier that lets us deliver a notification when a game you're in changes.
Crash and error diagnostics. Stack traces, device model, and OS version when something breaks.
Product analytics. Which screens get used and which features get ignored, so we know what to fix.

Why we collect it

To run the app: sign you in, put courts near you on a map, let you create and RSVP to games, let other players see who's coming, and notify you when something about your game changes. Diagnostics and analytics exist so we can fix crashes and stop building things nobody uses.

Location

The app asks for location so the map can open where you are and sort courts by distance. We do not store any location data.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers. They process data on our behalf and are not allowed to use it for their own purposes.

Supabase Database and authentication. Holds your account, games, RSVPs, and chat messages.
Expo Push notification delivery. Receives your notification token and the message text.
Sentry Crash reporting. Receives error details and device information when the app fails.
PostHog Product analytics. Receives which screens and features you use, tied to an account identifier.
Google Maps Map rendering and court imagery. Receives map requests, including the area you're looking at.

What we don't do

  • We do not sell your personal data.
  • We do not run advertising trackers or share data with ad networks.
  • We do not track your location in the background or build a location history.
  • We do not read your contacts, photo library, or calendar. When you add a photo, you pick it and only that one is uploaded.

What other players see

Your display name, handle, avatar, and profile details - position and city - are visible to other players. So are the games you've joined, anything you post in a game thread, and any court photos you add. If you check in at a court, other players see that you're there until the check-in expires. Your email address and your device's location are never shown to other players.

Deleting your account

In the app: Profile → Settings → Delete account. It asks once to confirm, then deletes. If you can't get into the app, email support@halfcourt.app from the address on the account and we'll do it for you within 30 days.

Deleting removes your account, profile, avatar, RSVPs, notification tokens, and analytics identifier. Messages you posted in game threads are removed or reattributed to a deleted user. Courts and court photos you contributed stay.

Full details, including what's retained and why, are on the delete account page.

How long we keep things

Account data for as long as you have an account. Crash reports for 90 days. Analytics for 12 months. Backups roll off within 30 days of deletion, which is why deletion isn't instant everywhere at once.

Children

Halfcourt is for people 13 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If you believe a child has made an account, email us and we'll remove it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll update the effective date at the top and notify you in the app before the change takes effect.

Contact
